If I had to describe this post in one word, it would be “Floaty”.

This spaced-out electro jam has some really techy instruments providing the melody, including the drums.

I programmed the drums in this track in what I considered to be a quite unusual way.  I think it made the track sound quite unique due to the odd placement of the  drum sounds.  I really like the fade effects and the arpeggio synth here.  Not so sure about the organ, though…I didn’t have an instrument that made exactly the sound I was looking for.

Anyone looking for some groovy, mainstream electronica?  This ain’t it.  This highly experimental track starts with some abstract trip-hop drums, and moves on to a barely melodic mix of “dolphin cries” and a breathy bass sound.  This is one of those really minimal tracks that I don’t neccecarily expect most people to have the patience for.  Hopefully you can catch on to the subtlety.

I liked the solemn, deep quality of the main instrument in here(The deep bassoon-like sound in the background).  This track quickly goes from downtempo chiller to drum and bass thriller.  With the drum and bass part, I wanted it to have a more “techy” quality than the rest of the track.  The computer bleeps near the end and the creepy pad really give that half of the track some great contrast.

This quickly came to me one day, and it came out pretty much as I expected.  The cut up drum loops and the big bass that comes in about halfway is what this track is all about.

Originally, I intended to have a period of inactivity after completing volume 3 of the random beats series.  I might have had some “recap” posts which would review all the best in certain genres.  Unfortunately, that will just have to wait, since there’s plenty of new material in my “secret stash” waiting to be released!

We start volume 4 with a bit of light-as-a-feather trance.  Listening to it now, I guess that dosen’t take into account the tough bass hits and the rumbling bass that goes through the whole track.

This track has been “cooking” for a while now.  The melody came to me spontaneously while on a trip a while ago.  Luckily I had my laptop so I was able to sequence the basics of this track right away.  Since then, the buzzy electric noises have been added, along with the old school 808 drums, and the trancey pad near the end(which has become my favorite part).

This track turned out great, and it’s a strong end to the 3rd volume of the random beats series.

As usual, now that the volume is complete, all of the tracks are available as a ZIP file of MP3s in the Downloads section.  While you’re there, you can check out some of the other free downloads!

I felt like the Ambient posts were becoming lonely(as of today, it has almost the least number of posts), so I decided to branch out a little.  I’ve heard lots of great ambient music lately, and I felt inspired.

My history with ambient music comes from 3 primary sources:  Vangelis’ Blade Runner score, the “Hearts of Space” radio series, and most recently and perhaps most importantly, Michael Woods.  During the trance explosion of the early part of this decade, Michael Woods had the courage to slow things down a bit and give the listener something different.  I’ve always respected his consistency in his remixes.  Haven’t heard anything ambient related from him in a while….
