This track is like a random beats 2-for-1 sale. Starting out as a uniform techno stomper, the tempo is modulated midway through to transform this minimal caterpillar into a paranoid dubstep butterfly. There is sharp contrast between the two parts, despite using the same bass instrument.

Simple in it’s execution, but not without some technicality, this chilled-out dubstep track has 2 dueling basslines which compete for superiority while the electric piano adds some great texture.

We’ve got some seriously spooky dubstep on tap today, and its melodic wobbly bassline is in the spotlight. The lack of variation in the wobble means this isn’t the most complex or “intelligent” dubstep track, but I made the choice to keep it simple. Other sounds put in just for the sake of excitement would have threatened the chilled-out nature of this track.

Today’s offering consists of some chilled-out dubstep that I find has a mysterious quality. The deep bells that start near the beginning was one of the last elements I put in here, but I think the effect really nails down the rhythm and melody, and supplements the bass in the low end department.

I completed this track in record time. In less than 24 hours I went from the conceptual phases of this production to a full blown 5-minute song. I thought this track deserved a little extra recognition because of what I considered to be a high production value. Dubstep fans will probably consider this a little more mainstream than some of my other downtempo/chillout oriented dubstep.

Headphones or good bass speakers reccomended – this wobbly track will give those subs a workout!

Dub music has become an increasingly effective medium for me. I had lots of fun making the last “pure” dub tune in the random beats series – 1_04.

This new dub tune is still uptempo and modern enough that we can call it dubstep. It started with the childlike keyboard sound throughout the track. However, along the way I became tempted to turn up the “whiteboy reggae dial” to 11, which brought in the piano elements. Overall I’m very pleased with how it turned out.

The next remix from the Existential Funk Remix EP(Coming soon to the downloads section) is of what became one of my favorite songs from the album. The psychedelic tech-house track is transformed in this dubstep remix, accentuatting the dub influence and changing the melody slightly without differentiating it too much from the original(If you haven’t heard it yet, you can stream or buy it on the Existential Funk page).

This was a great remix to do mostly because of the vivid transformation the track took on.

If you’re a frequenter of this site, you may have noticed my fascination with all things dubstep.

I discovered dubstep last year and it gave me a renewed excitement for electronic music(not to say that it’s ever faded). Being a huge fan of D&B and dub, I instantly fell in love with it. It seems slow enough to chill out to, and yet fast and tough enough to dance to. It all depends on the producer’s intent.

This track started as an experimental track, along the lines of a warp records/Aphex Twin bit. Somewhere along the lines I decided it would work better as a dubstep track. I didn’t mean it, honest! I guess I’m not destined for the IDM scene.

The track is glitchy, minimal and persistent, and I think it turned out nicely. If you like this, you might also be interested in an artist called Boxcutter.

This is the last random beat post for volume 1 – meaning that all the “1_” posts will be available for download here. Subsequent finished volumes(defined as 30 minutes of music) will be posted in the same place in ZIP files for you to download.

Probably not going to post for the next two weeks or so, due to a vacation. Therefore, I’m leaving you with this dubstep track I’ve been working on for a while. Anybody looking for head-smashing, agressive dubstep, this isn’t it. I took in lots of dubstep influence on this and went my own way with it. The end result is laid-back, atmospheric, and less dancefloor oriented. Don’t forget those headphones!

Ed. Note: The head-smashing agressive dubstep will probably be on it’s way soon.

You’ll notice this is considerably longer than some of the other tracks posted so far – maybe because this one feels more like it’s closer to being complete.
